A mini-workshop

Breath connects the nervous system to the body. It influences your response to stress, it modulates your recovery, it can attenuate anxiety, it influence your sleep and determines your exercise performance. Breathing has three interconnected dimensions: mechanics, biochemistry and psychology.
This mini-workshop introduces these concepts to help you help yourself. The mechanics of breathing covers the role of the nose, mouth, diaphragm and rib cage. Everyday breathing can be impacted by posture, exercise habits, how we walk and musculoskeletal pain. The role of oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitric oxide and the acid-base homeostasis is introduced in the biochemistry section. How you breathe influence your mental state and how you feel will impact your breathing. This bidirectional relationship between breathing and our mental state is a driver in many mental health conditions including anxiety, panic and insomnia.
Breathing efficiency determines sports performance. Take your fitness to a new level by learning how to train your breathing mechanics and influence the biochemistry. This workshop will be interactive and you will leave with the knowledge of when and how to change your breathing to suit the conditions.
